IzVRS is a partner in the Adriatic+ project
The Water Institute of the Republic of Slovenia, together with eight other partners from Italy, Slovenia, Montenegro and Croatia, is participating in the European project Adriatic+ (Sharing Marine and Coastal Cross-Management Experiences in the Adriatic Basin – Exchange of experiences in the field of marine and coastal environment management in the Adriatic).
IWRS a partner in LIFE project ViVaCCAdapt
Institute for Water of the Republic of Slovenia will as a partner participate in the LIFE project called ViVaCCAdapt – Adapting to the impacts of Climate Change in the Vipava Valley.
River Basin Adaptation Conference: Nova Gorica, Slovenia, 7-8 March 2017
There is an urgent need for adaptation plans to outline how individual river basins can prepare for the impacts of climate change and other pressures. The development of successful adaptation strategies needs to involve both regional and local stakeholders.

Internautica Award for Environmental Awareness for the BALMAS project
At this year’s Internautica, which took place from 4 to 8 May at Marina Portorož, the BALMAS project was awarded a special prize for environmental awareness. A twelve-member expert jury recognised the project team, led by the Water Research Institute, for its outstanding contributions to the protection, conservation and improvement of natural resources in the Adriatic region.

Warm, sunny spring and autumn days, when the interior of the country is shrouded in cold, clouds or mist, draw crowds to coastal towns for a coffee; life by the sea provides us with seafood, salt, olives and citrus fruits. And last but not least, it connects us with the wider world. But, given all these gifts of life by the sea and from the sea, what do we actually know about the Slovenian sea – or rather, about the marine environment?

How can water management measures be introduced to facilitate adaptation to climate change in the Vipava river basin?
It is expected that climate change and other pressures will affect the environment and water resources in the Vipava river basin. A management plan for the catchment area and its water resources is currently being drawn up with the aim of better adapting to future changes in conditions.
