Project BeWater – notice about mobile exhibition – Vipava
Within the framework of the European project BeWater awareness campaign continues in a form of mobile exhibition hosted in various places in Slovenia with the focus on Vipava Valley.
Internautica Award for Environmental Awareness for the BALMAS project
At this year’s Internautica, which took place from 4 to 8 May at Marina Portorož, the BALMAS project was awarded a special prize for environmental awareness. A twelve-member expert jury recognised the project team, led by the Water Research Institute, for its outstanding contributions to the protection, conservation and improvement of natural resources in the Adriatic region.
The Slovenian Sea – an enchanting treasure that must be preserved
Warm, sunny spring and autumn days, when the interior of the country is shrouded in cold, clouds or mist, draw crowds to coastal towns for a coffee; life by the sea provides us with seafood, salt, olives and citrus fruits. And last but not least, it connects us with the wider world. How can water management measures be introduced to facilitate adaptation to climate change in the Vipava river basin?
It is expected that climate change and other pressures will affect the environment and water resources in the Vipava river basin. A management plan for the catchment area and its water resources is currently being drawn up with the aim of better adapting to future changes in conditions.
The BeWater Project – announcement regarding the travelling exhibition – Nova Gorica
As part of the European BeWater project, we are continuing our awareness-raising campaign in the form of a travelling exhibition, which is on display in various locations across Slovenia, with a particular focus on the Vipava Valley.
Stakeholders on water resource management in the Vipava river basin
It is expected that climate change and other pressures will affect the environment and water resources in the Vipava river basin. It is necessary to begin planning the management of the catchment and its water resources in such a way that they are adapted to future changes in conditions.
Through a series of workshops in the Vipava river basin, representatives of the Slovenian Water Institute are involving the interested public in the preparation of a water management strategy for the basin, with a view to adapting to climate change.
Water-related jobs in the waste sector
As part of its activities for the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning in 2015, the Water Institute of the Republic of Slovenia is organising a series of awareness-raising events in the field of flood risk reduction in areas of significant flood impact in Slovenia.

At the Slovenian Water Institute, most of our research into microplastics in water has been carried out at sea. The results of this research show that the Adriatic Sea is among the most heavily polluted.
