Development of fish based ecological status assessment and classification methods of lake water bodies

Fisheries Research Institute of Slovenia in cooperation with Institute for Water of the Republic of Slovenia were investigating suitability of european fish based ecological status assessment method of alpine lakes for Slovenia considering the Water Framework Directive requirements (possible sampling approaches, metrics used, stressors considered, definition of reference conditions and...

The development of methods for ecological status assessment of dinaric rivers downstream of karst spring based on benthic invertebrates

Benthic invertebrates are one of biological quality elements used for assessment of hydromorphological modification impacts. Within this task assessment method was developed for hydromorphological alteration/general degradation influence based on benthic invertebrate assemblages for river ecological types in ecoregion Dinaric western Balkan, for which no assessment method for hydromorphological alteration/general degradation...

The influence of hydromorphological characteristics of Slovenian rivers on benthic invertebrate assemblages

In doctoral dissertation the linkage between hydromorphological variables of various levels and benthic invertebrate assemblages in Slovenian rivers was investigated. Within our research we published our findings in three scientific articles. The results are a good framework for more sustainable and cost-effective management of lotic ecosystems.

QUIETMED Project – Joint programme on noise (D11) for the implementation of the second cycle of the MSFD in the Mediterranean Sea

QUIETMED project aims to improve the level of coherence and the comparability of the implementation of the second cycle of the Marine Directive (MSFD) as regards Descriptor 11 – underwater noise implementation in the Mediterranean Sea Basin Region by enhancing cooperation among Member States (MS), the Barcelona Convention and other...

Project MEDCIS – Support Mediterranean Member States towards coherent and coordinated implementation of the second phase of the MSFD

MEDCIS project aims to facilitate the implementation of the next phase of MSFD by and providing the criteria and methodological standards, towards coordinated approaches between MSs. We will focus on Mediterranean regional/subregional cooperation and standardization, and recommend suitable approaches for this region to ensure consistency in the approaches selected by...
