Sector for Fresh Waters

Field of work

The Sector for Fresh Waters covers water management activities concerning water infrastructure, water use, water planning and water protection. Within the framework of water infrastructure and water use, we provide the following services: hydrological-hydraulic analyses and mathematical modelling of flood events and planned flood protection measures of river courses, elaboration of integrated concepts of flood protection measures for river basins and catchment areas, elaboration of hydrological studies for water use for individual river basins and strategic concepts for water use for individual river basins in accordance with restrictions of availability of water quantities and water quality parameters, conceptual and preliminary designs of water infrastructure and water use facilities, elaboration of financial-economic analyses and assessments for planned water infrastructure and water use facilities as well as other expert bases as part of public service for the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning. Within the framework of water planning and water protection, we provide the methodologies for expert bases for the Water Management Plan and the Programme of Measures for Water Management in accordance with the Decree on the Detailed Content and Methodology of Elaboration of Water Management Plans for Surface Water, preparation of expert bases related to water pollution, hydromorphological and biological pressures in waters, preparation of expert bases for water impact assessments, definition of the impact of pressures on specific water quality parameters of the ecological status of waters, elaboration of economic analyses for water management needs and support for water pricing policies. Water protection tasks cover the preparation of expert bases and methodologies for water protection of the aquatic and riparian ecosystems, expert bases and methodologies for ecologically acceptable flow, water use restrictions and conditions for water use, issuing water permits for different water uses like gravel abstraction and navigation on fresh waters. The Sector for Fresh Waters also elaborates development, research and applied projects in the area of fresh water management.
