How can we reduce waste in one of Slovenia’s most iconic rivers, where nature conservation, tourism, fishing and the local economy are all intertwined? We sought answers at a discussion entitled ‘Measures to Reduce Waste in the Soča Valley’, which took place yesterday, 22 April 2026, in Tolmin as part of the Soča Trout Festival.

Neža Kodre, Director of IzVRS, took part in a panel discussion as part of the workshop ‘Slovenia’s Digital Twin – A First Look’, which was organised under the auspices of the European Space Agency and included representatives from various initiatives, notably DestinE and DTE.
An expert consultation was held in Brdo pri Kranju to mark World Water Day, with the aim of strengthening resilience in the field of water management in Slovenia.
IzVRS is participating as a partner in the new European STRIVER project – Strengthening the resilience of transboundary river basins to climate change, with a focus on extreme hydrological events, which is being implemented under the INTERREG Slovenia–Croatia programme.
The project launch agreement was signed on 2 March this year, and the partners met in person for the first time at the project’s kick-off meeting, which took place on Friday 6 March in Novo Mesto.
On 6 March 2026, the Water Institute of the Republic of Slovenia (IzVRS) organised an event in Tolmin ‘For clean waters: ditch the habit, not the waste’, aimed at raising awareness of the issue of waste in rivers and presenting the activities of the international TETHYS4ADRION project.
