To mark World Water Day – which is observed on 22 March – the Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning (MNVP) organised an event at which experts and specialists exchanged views on the hydrological challenges arising from climate change and human activity.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning, in collaboration with the Water Institute of the Republic of Slovenia, will mark World Water Day on Thursday 20 March with an event at the main post office in Ljubljana.

On 26 and 27 November 2024, representatives of the Slovenian Water Institute attended the second partner meeting of the AQUATIC PLASTIC project. At the same time, a training session and workshop were held to bring together events focusing on co-creation methods.
On Monday, 2 December 2024, the Water Institute of the Republic of Slovenia organised the 1st national stakeholder workshop as part of the DanubeSediment_Q2 project. The workshop was hosted by Hidroelektrarne na Spodnji Savi, where the selected pilot site in Slovenia is located.
In the second half of June 2024, a two-day meeting of the project partners of the Aquatic Plastic (AQPLA) project took place in Vienna, hosted by BOKU (University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences). The event brought together representatives of the participating organisations to review the activities carried out, assess the project’s progress and develop strategies to reduce waste pollution in the Danube river basin. In parallel, workshops were held to develop methodologies for sampling micro-litter in rivers, river sediments and fish.
At the Water Institute of the Republic of Slovenia (IzVRS), we recognise the importance of water and have been working towards its sustainable management for over 50 years through research, development and consultancy in the field of water management.
The Water Institute of the Republic of Slovenia was successful in the CRP 2023 call for proposals, which was published in May 2023 by the Public Agency for Scientific Research and Innovation of the Republic of Slovenia (ARIS).
The 23rd meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention – the Mediterranean Conference (COP 23) – is taking place this week in Portorož, with the Slovenian Water Institute also taking part.
